This Shiraz was sourced from vineyards grown on the Kalleske's Greenock property in the Barossa Valley and owned by the family since 1855. The palate is beautifully structured with extreme depth and concentration of flavour with a confit of black fruits, liquorice and a long finish of plush, fine grain tannins. A sophisticated wine that is approachable now but will benefit from time in cellar. Handcrafted by traditional methods of open top fermentation for 21 months in American and French oak hogsheads.
Pairing: Beef, duck, pork
2012 CEO Reserve Shiraz by Laughing Jack
Appearance: Shimmering black in colour, impenetrable black core with rich red rim.
Aroma: A brooding mix of Christmas cake, dark plum and dark cherry wrapped by cedar and spices; nutmeg, pepper, cloves and touch of vanilla. There are hints of perfume and violets typical of Greenock fruit that show after opening but overall characters of Christmas cake dark fruits and spices prevail.
Palate: Lusciously rich, silky front to mid palate with an almost chewy texture once the wine has had time to open up. The mouthfeel is concentrated with a dark fruit dominance and it shows its complexity with bitter dark cholocate, spices, quality oak, structured acidity and plenty of ripe fine grained tannins. The back palate is firm but balanced with the tannins and acidity and lingers a spicy finish.
